Managing Diversity

Now the question comes to mind that is there a need to manage diversity in the workplace. Some people opine that it is compulsory; on the other hand some people even think that diversity calls for its management only if it is not incorporated effectively. However, I feel we need to manage the diversity so as to avoid the social and economic consequences for our business. When the workers are marginalized by their co-workers or managers due to differences, they feel alienated and hence resulting to low productivity, low morale and low involvement of employees. Diversity strategy will have a leading edge in productivity as well as retention of an employee.

Managing the diversity for the success of business is a four-step process:

Step 1-Recognising the economic consequences to the business.

One should realize that the lost opportunities, loss of productivity potential employment law mistakes and employee turnover are some of the economic consequences that a business undergoes when it does not implement a strategy for diversity. This deficiency can retard the business growth.

Step 2- Developing an effective strategy for Managing Diversity for Success

It includes communicating with employees, assigning responsibilities, allocating financial resources, establishing a diversity council or task force, building accountability.

Step 3 - Implementing an action plan for organizational change

It is the series of steps that need to be implemented.

·        - Communicating the action plan.
·        -Conducting the initial diversity assessment.
·        -Setting diversity business goals.
·        -Providing employee training and development.

STEP 4-Evaluating the diversity strategy
Here is a clear picture of how to effectively manage diversity in a workplace.

It  is not just the duty of employers to manage the diversity, in fact being the member of the company each individual must drive their behavior in a way that promotes co-operation, trust and unity among co-workers.
